At the beginning of September Transfennica Logistics first own blocktrain departed from Antwerp to Hendaye (Irun) North of Spain.
This weekly service is connecting Transfennica’s shortsea service out of the Baltic with the Iberian Peninsula and back again. With its short transittimes and reliability it out performs all competing shortsea/feeder services and matches the quality image of Transfennica’s shortsea service.
The train can carry 40 - 45ft Transfennica containers (80 TEU), towards Spain loaded with Finnish paper supplied to Antwerp port by Transfennica’s Conro’s, and completed with cargo from Benelux such as Beer and Automotive spare parts. On the return from Spain the container units will be loaded with all kinds of Spanish cargo from wines to medical supplies for the Benelux and Finland.
Transfennica Logistics organises in both Antwerp and Hendaye (Irun) trucking capacity and coordinates loading or discharging at final destination throughout Europe.
If all goes well, up from January 2016, the service will be departing twice a week from Antwerp to Hendaye (Irun) at the Spanish border and in an identical schedule back northbound again.
The Transfennica Logistics Blocktrain concept is in house developed and operated by the Belgian rail operator IFB/B-Logistics.
