Despite the closure of Transfennica’s Iberian route, the Paper and Board volumes from Finland to Spain kept on growing.
Transfennica Logistics, in charge of the connection from Antwerp to final destination, either their own distribution centre in Bilbao, either the final receiver in Spain, was challenged to maintain the tight short sea transit schedules.
After discharging the units from Transfennica’s Conro’s in Kallo, the containers need to be shunted to Rotterdam Port (RST) where they are shipped onboard of the Container vessels from contracted partners. Due to the increased volumes, the shunting between the two ports had to be optimized.
Last month Transfennica Logistics’ first Barge connection between Antwerp/Kallo and Rotterdam RST has been introduced.
Cargo arrived with the MV Kraftca on Saturday morning at Euroports terminal in Kallo, and was shifted same day on board of the barge “Voyage”.
The “Voyage” dropped those units following Monday morning early at Rotterdam RST, well in time for the OPDR connection to Bilbao.
In this way the Finland connection to Spain remains a full shortsea connection.
